How It All Started...

The Church of the Nazarene was started in Los Angeles over 100 years ago with an emphasis on helping the poor and other people in need. In 1928, Olive Crane came north to San Luis Obispo, and with a small group of believers started what we now know as SLONaz. In 1966, the current campus was constructed at Southwood and Johnson.
Over the years, as the ministries of SLONaz have expanded, the facilities have grown and adapted. But even as the church’s campus has changed and grow, it has kept it’s original mission of community service and helping individuals reach their full potential through the power of Christ.

Expanding The Vision...
We are a Christian church that has been called to live out I Peter 4:8 “Above all else…. Love each other deeply.” That defines the way we live out our community, how we do our worship services, and how we live out our daily lives. To love God with all our hearts, soul, mind and strength, and our neighbor as ourselves is what is pleasing to our Lord Jesus Christ. That is our calling and passion. We have a long history as a church in our community (92 years), but we feel like our most important days are right here right now. Today is the day the Lord has made, and we will rejoice and be glad in it!
Where We're Headed...
We feel that God has uniquely called our church to express the love of God in three ways:
Welcome – Welcome people to the grace of God.
Encourage – Encourage people in a discouraging world.
Build – build people into lifelong followers of Jesus Christ.
We honestly feel that if we can live out these three words on the Central Coast, that God will build His church in our midst. We can’t do everything, but with God’s help, we can do these three things well. That is our mission and calling. That gives us a purpose and a plumbline for the life and ministries of our church. That defines the “what” we do, and the “why” of why we exist. Come join us as we endeavor to win the Central Coast for Christ by loving God and our neighbor as ourself.
